LO2: Planning a 3D modelled character for use in a game.

The character I will be modelling is for a game we are working on in Unit 65. It is a 1st-person game which means I will be only modelling and animating the arms that the player will see.

Genre:

The character is being used in a world that has a medieval fantasy setting, meaning his attire and looks will be inspired by the conventions of that genre.

A moodboard of different styles related to the fantasy genre.

Character Profile:

The character I'm creating is a 'Duelist', a class in the game that wields both a sword and parry dagger, they'll be fast but have a low amount of health. this means that his attire will have to be light but still tough enough to give him some defence. A duelist is typically an adult male in their early 30s.

The arms of this character are what will be animated and made into the model seen in the game.

Character Visuals:

These are the visuals of the character that would be made into animations and actions the player could do in the game.

The player can sheath and unsheath their weapon and an animation will play when they do so. The standard attack animation is the sword thrusting foreward and will go where ever the camera's reticle is facing.
An animation of the player's arm reaching out to the door handle is played when you open a door.
Parrying with the dagger will be used as a defense against enemy attacks by deflecting them.

Target Audience:

The target audience of this character will be the same as the game's and this will be aimed towards 16+ year olds with a 70:30 ratio of male to female. The game will be available to anyone with an internet connection, meaning that the majority of the locations to be targeted at will be cities and towns and less likely rural countrysides. The game would be fairly cheap, around £15, which the target audience would probably be around the social grades (NRS) C2 to E. The people in the E grade are most likely unemployed teenagers and so would likely rely on their parents income, which can be from grade D and above.
